Kannada film Hasina worldwide Premiere in Chennai

For the first time a worldwide premiere of a Kannada film Hasina, directed by four time National Award winner Girish Kasaravalli is scheduled at Sathyam Cinemas in Chennai on 25/05/05. The film is produced by actress Thara.
Based on a story of Bhanu Mushtaak, the film focuses on the exploitation of Muslim women in the coastal areas of Karnataka. Writer Kolar Lakshmipathi and Bhanu Mushtaak’s sister Ishrath have jointly provided the dialogues for this film. Thomas Isak is the music director. Thara, Soundarya, Chandrahaas Ullal, Bhargavi are in the cast.
When published the story raised protests, Kasaravalli has played down the controversies and has concentrated on the emotional aspects of the story. Girish's earlier film Dweepa was produced by late actress Soundarya. Now Thara, who has won the best-actress award from the Karnataka government twice, plays the lead role and is also producing the film. Cinematography is by Bhaskar. A blind girl from the Ramana Maharshi Blind School in Bangalore plays an important role. Many stage actors from Mangalore and Sagar are acting in this film. Initially Hasina faced some problems from Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists while shooting.
Thara has done about half-a-dozen films in Tamil.
